Terms of Use & Disclaimer

Read this first

This service performs automated research and produces an opinion, not a finding of fact. We do not guarantee that anything we report is accurate, current or complete. A high score is not a guarantee that a website is safe or that a business is honest. A low score is not an allegation of fraud or wrongdoing. Nothing here is legal, financial, security or professional advice. You are solely responsible for your own decisions.

1. Acceptance

By using isthiswebsitelegit (the "Service") you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. We may update these terms at any time; continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms.

2. What the Service is

The Service accepts a website address and performs automated lookups against publicly available sources, including domain registration records (RDAP), the site's public TLS certificate, the content published on the site itself, public review platforms, public discussion forums, and public web archives. It then applies a fixed set of rules to produce a numeric score and a written summary.

The score is a heuristic opinion generated by software. It reflects only what our automated checks could observe at the moment you ran them, from sources that may themselves be incomplete, outdated or wrong.

3. No warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, noninfringement, accuracy, reliability, completeness, and uninterrupted availability.

We do not warrant that any result is correct, that any website we score favourably is safe or lawful, or that any website we score poorly is fraudulent or unlawful. We do not monitor, endorse, or vouch for any third party website.

4. Not advice, and not a substitute for your own diligence

Nothing produced by the Service constitutes legal, financial, investment, insurance, security or other professional advice, and it must not be relied upon as such. You must carry out your own due diligence before transacting with any website, sharing personal or payment information, or acting on anything the Service reports.

5. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we and our operators, contributors and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages, nor for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, business opportunity, or for any financial loss arising from fraud, non delivery, chargebacks or disputes with any third party, however caused and under any theory of liability, arising out of or connected with your use of or reliance on the Service.

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us to use the Service (which for the free Service is nil) or EUR 50.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect your mandatory statutory rights.

6. Third party sources and trade marks

The Service reads information from third party sources and links to them so you can verify it yourself. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them. All product names, trade marks and registered trade marks referenced remain the property of their respective owners, and are used only for identification and factual reference.

We are not responsible for the accuracy, availability or content of any third party source or any website you reach through the Service.

7. Statements about businesses

Reports describe observable facts (for example, "no postal address was found on the homepage") and clearly labelled opinion based on those facts. We do not assert that any named business has committed fraud or any other wrongdoing. Completed reports are saved in our public directory so they can be revisited; running a check again updates the saved report.

If you operate a website and believe a source we read contains incorrect information, the effective remedy is to correct it at that source and run the check again. To ask about removing a public report, contact us as described in the privacy policy. See the FAQ for detail.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service to harass, defame or mislead anyone;
  • present our output as a certification, audit, or statement of fact;
  • circumvent rate limits, or use automated means to submit checks at scale;
  • use the Service to attack, probe or overload any third party website;
  • use the Service where doing so would breach any applicable law.

9. Availability

The Service is free and may be changed, rate limited, suspended or discontinued at any time without notice. Individual checks may fail when an upstream source is unavailable; such failures are reported rather than hidden.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Cyprus, and the courts of Cyprus have nonexclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EU or UK, you retain the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence.
